New Delhi, April 8: Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department of the AICC, Pawan Khera, today said that neither he nor the Congress party would be scared by threats and intimidation from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a video message today, Khera said, he was only avoiding the police as he had questions to raise, which he would continue to do. He said he is from Mewar, a soldier of the Congress party and of Rahul Gandhi, and has not learnt to be afraid of anyone.

Referring to the raids carried out by the Assam Police at his residence, he said about 100 cops had descended on his small apartment and taken away an old phone earlier used by his sister, an old laptop he never uses, and a new iPad that he had not even started using. He added that he was not sure which pen drives the police had seized, whether these were actually taken from his home or the police had brought them along before the raid.

Khera said that being in the opposition, it is his and his party’s right and duty to ask questions while the government’s duty is to provide answers and investigate the issues raised.

Khera reiterated questions regarding a purported company registered in the name of Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma in Wyoming (US), and stated that the company lists a London address as primary and two other addresses in Dubai and Dhaka. He said the London address is also linked with ‘Bhuyan Properties Ltd’, according to UK government records.

Mentioning his previous charge of Sarma’s wife possessing passports of Egypt and Antigua and Barbuda, and the golden visa of the UAE, Khera remarked that it can be known only through investigation whether any family member of Sarma used fake KYC documents to open shell companies, buy properties and acquire foreign passports. He added that the government’s duty is to investigate the matter, rather than unleash the police on those raising questions based on publicly available information.
