Pregnant Woman Murdered In Alleged Honour Killing Over Inter-Caste Marriage

Karnataka: A 19-year-old pregnant woman was brutally attacked and killed for marrying outside her caste in Karnataka’s Hubballi region, reported The Hindu.

The young woman and the unborn baby in her womb died due to severe injuries, while her husband and in-laws were also seriously injured in the attack.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Inam Veerapur village near Belagali in Hubballi taluk.

The deceased has been identified as Manya Vivekanand Doddamani, who had married Vivekanand Doddamani in May 2025 against the wishes of her family.

police sources told The Hindu that Manya’s parents had strongly opposed the marriage because it was an inter-caste union.

Following the wedding, both the police and the tahsildar had intervened and called the families for counseling.

A case was also reportedly registered earlier as a precaution due to reported threats to the couple’s life.

Fearing danger, Manya and her husband had shifted to Haveri after the marriage. However, they returned to their native village on December 8, 2025.

On Sunday, Manya’s father and several others allegedly attacked Vivekanand and his father while they were working in their agricultural field.

Later, the attackers reportedly barged into the house and assaulted Manya, her mother-in-law Renavva, and other family members using lethal weapons.

Manya was critically injured in the attack and was rushed to a private hospital in Hubballi. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday night. The unborn baby also did not survive.

Manya’s husband Vivekanand, along with his parents, sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hubballi. Their condition is being closely monitored.
