Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Slams BJP Over Job Crisis, Unveils Congress' Plan

Priyanka Gandhi also lambasted Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran’s assertion that the government can’t solve all societal and economic problems, especially unemployment.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing critique against the Centre”s handling of unemployment, charging that the BJP”s track record on job creation is dismal. She said that the youth of the country have understood the BJP”s inability to address this critical issue and offered her party”s comprehensive blueprint to tackle unemployment head-on.

Referring to the India Employment Report 2024, jointly released by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Institute of Human Development (IHD), Gandhi pointed out alarming statistics that revealed 83 percent of India”s unemployed population comprises young individuals.

“The share of educated youth in the total unemployed was 35.2% in 2000. In 2022, it has almost doubled to 65.7%,” she said.

Gandhi also lambasted Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran’s assertion that the government can’t solve all societal and economic problems, especially unemployment.

“The Prime Minister’s Chief Economic Adviser is saying that ‘the government cannot solve the problem of unemployment’,” the Congress general secretary said.

Wondering what more the government can do besides direct hiring, Nageswaran said that it”s the private sector”s job to create jobs. “In the normal world, it is the commercial sector who needs to do the hiring,” he pointed out, while listing out the actions taken by the government to spur job creation in recent years.

This is the truth of the BJP government, she added.

“Today every youth of the country has understood that BJP cannot provide employment. Congress Party has a concrete plan to provide employment to the youth,” she said.

Listing key components of the Congress” strategy, Gandhi said that her party plans to immediately fill 30 lakh vacant government positions. The party has also proposed an apprenticeship program offering Rs 1 lakh per year to every graduate or diploma holder.

She also promised stringent legislation to combat paper leaks and extend social security benefits to gig workers. She said that Congress has committed to fostering entrepreneurship by establishing a national fund of Rs 5,000 crore for startups.

“The Congress government will strengthen the hands of the youth of the country through an employment revolution. Youths are the future of the country. If they are strong then the country will be strong,” she said.
