Sandeshkhali Sting Operation: Plea In Supreme Court Seeks Probe

Fresh tensions have erupted in the Sandeshkhali case as a sting video alleging the BJP leader has orchestrated false rape complaints. A plea has been filed to the Supreme Court seeking a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to seek the genuineness and veracity of the video, reports Bar and Bench.

In the purported video, a person revealed that the rape charges against the Trinamool Congress leader were false and the people of the Sandeshkhali acted upon the instructions of the BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari to put the TMC party in bad light.

The woman who has filed the application said that they were made to sign on blank papers which resulted in false rape complaints against the TMC leaders.

The plea said that the Court should examine the video in question which would reveal how constitutional authorities and investigating agencies were being influenced.

The matter was mentioned by the Senior advocate Meneka Guruswamy to the bench consisting of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta.

In response to the plea submitted, the top court has directed that the request for list will be considered and appropriate orders will be passed accordingly.

In a surprising turn of events, one of the three Sandeshkhali women withdrew the rape charges made against the TMC leader on Wednesday. The woman after withdrawing the case, said, “BJP forced me to sign blank papers and file rape complaint,” reports NDTV.

“They asked for my signature on the pretext of enlisting my name for PMAY. Later, they took me to the police station to lodge a complaint of sexual abuse. There was no sexual assault on me inside the Trinamool office. I was never forced to go to the party office late at night,” she said.

This recent development has come after a video of the sting operation went viral. In the video, a man claimed that the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari was behind the “whole conspiracy”.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Suvendu Adhikari and many others.
