Following the killing of a BJP worker last night, several shops have been torched by an angry mob in the East Medinipur district, of Nandigram, West Bengal. On Thursday, a local woman and BJP worker was killed in an attack by miscreants, news Agency ANI reports.
The BJP has alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers were behind the alleged attack against its party workers. The BJP workers staged a protest, blocking the roads. The saffron party workers have also torched several shops in the city, according to the latest reports earlier today.
Visuals shared by the news agency ANI showed vandalism carried out by the BJP workers in several places. Security forces were deployed to restore the law and order situation in the area and forces have been trying to disperse the agitated crowd.

The BJP workers alleged that the attack by the members of the TMC happened when they were patrolling near polling booths. The saffron party claimed that they conduct night patrolling in the Sonachura area periodically to check anti-social elements during the elections.
However, the latest development emerged ahead of the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections scheduled on Saturday. The BJP workers are protesting against the alleged attack against its workers, in which one of its female workers – Rotibala Ari – lost her life. Some other workers have also been injured in the attack, and they have been hospitalised, the party workers alleged.
The TMC has denied the allegations, rejecting its association with the violence last night. It further stated that it was inside rivalry among the BJP workers that caused the clashes. TMC leader Swadesh Das said that there were some family disputes and the killing could be a result of that. Police have said that an investigation is underway into the woman”s killing.
