Alleging Religious Conversion, Hindu Nationalist Group Attacks Christian Prayer Meeting In West Bengal

Howrah, West Bengal: Members of far-right Hindu nationalist group Sanghati allegedly attacked a Christian prayer meeting, vandalised property, and harassed attendees in West Bengal’s Howrah district.

The incident occurred on August 23, and the video of the attack has now gone viral on social media, after fact-checker Mohammed Zubair shared video of the alleged vandalism. The footage surfaced just days before RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat spoke in New York on August 29 about India’s unity in diversity and oneness of religions.

Zubair said the harassment was carried out alleging religious conversions through healing and inducements. In a social media post, Zubair slammed the national news channels for lacking the courage to cover the incident even after a week.

“This is how deeply normalised violence on a minority community has become in India,” Zubair wrote on X. Users on X also lamented the lack of coverage by national news channels while questioning the media silence and minority safety.
