Tamil Nadu Police Breaches Duplicate SBI Branch, Trio Held

Tamil Nadu police have arrested three individuals who are allegedly involved in running a duplicate State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Panruti. The police initiated the investigation following a complaint by a manager of the existing branch in the city after they encountered an inquiry about the newly opened branch in North Bazaar.

Having confirmed that only two authorized branches are situated in Panruti, the SBI Zonal Office promptly alerted the authorities about the sophisticated replica of a genuine SBI branch, equipped with identical systems and infrastructure, leading to the arrest of the three individuals involved in the scheme.

During the inquiry, the police found out that Kamal Babu, who was the mastermind of the fake branch, landed on the idea when his mother, who was a bank employee, retired from service just two years before. His father, who died a decade ago, was also from the same background.

The police also captured illicitly produced banking documents and counterfeit rubber stamps from Babu and held the other two who helped Babu produce such duplicate records. The swift intervention by the SBI officials hindered the suspects from making forged transactions, avoiding potential financial losses.
