Shipra Pathak, who is on a foot march to Rameshwaram from Ayodhya, recently alleged that she was assaulted near Paramakudi in Tamil Nadu during her foot march. However, the Tamil Nadu police said that the complaint given by Shipra Pathak is “untrue.”

According to the New Indian Express report, Shipra Pathak, also known as Water Woman, was on a pilgrimage along with her father and brother. Shipra Pathak covered some distance on foot, and the rest was covered by car. On March 9, when she reached Ramanathapuram, she alleged that a gang assaulted and threatened her in Paramakudi. Shipra Pathak also filed a police complaint over the incident.

Meanwhile, Ramanathapuram District Police wrote in its X handle on March 11 that a case has been registered and three special forces were formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Thiruvadanai Subdivision for the investigation. However, the police stated that the complaint given by Shipra Pathak is untrue, based on various evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation.

Fact-checker and journalist Mohammed Zubair, citing Tamil Nadu police, wrote in his X handle that Shipra Pathak’s brother collected stones from the road and placed them in the car during the alleged attack. The police claim that the alleged incident was “staged and fabricated,”  said Mohammed Zubair on March 14.

“It appears that the complaint given by Shipra Pathak is untrue. The police are still investigating the incident,” wrote the Ramanathapuram District Police on its X handle in Tamil.

As per the report, a major uproar from Hindu outfits emerged to act against the accused. BJP State General Secretary Pon V Balaganapathy also raised this issue on his X handle and urged the police to take action. Police said that Shipra Pathak”s statements were contradictory, and CCTV footage from near the national highway showed that allegations made by her were false, reported the New Indian Express.

Shipra Pathak calls herself a water and nature conservationist. In October 2023, Shipra Pathak made headlines by completing a 1001-kilometer journey on foot along the Gomti river. According to a Times of India report, she has been going on such journeys for the last 10 years.
