Vande Peru?: Ashwini Vaishnaw Uses Peru Rail Clip For Vande Bharat Reel; Trolled

In a foot-in-the-mouth moment, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video celebrating Vande Bharat and its expansion under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The celebration soon turned into troll fest as netizens were quick to point out that in the now edited video, there was footage of Peru Rail around 17 seconds of the video, passed off as Vande Bharat.

In the video posted by Vaishnaw on the social media platform X with the caption, “Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Namo Bharat Trains ki Triveni,” amidst the video clips of tourists, travellers, parts of India, and Vande Bharat trains, there stood a glaring anomaly.

Around 0:17 seconds, a blue train with “PERU RAIL” painted in bright yellow paint appears in the video posted by the Indian Railway Minister.

The footage used in the video belonged to a YouTube video titled “PERU RAIL Train to Machu Picchu service on Vistadome class!” posted four years ago.

As several netizens called out the railway minister for the glaring error, Vaishnaw deleted the video and soon tweeted another video with the same caption, but this time, the ‘Peru Rail’ was edited out.

Alas, the internet always remembers.

Prof. Varsha Eknath Gaikwad of Congress said, “Since the Reel Minister has deleted his tweet, here is a screen recording of the video he posted earlier. It shows how his department is taking credit of foreign railways achievements as his own. It is clear they cannot handle the railways well, but it now seems they cannot handle reel making also well!”

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, “Reel Mantri exposed again. Only if focus was on Rail rather than reel, we would have better rail services!”

Congress leader Srinivas BV asked, “Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Indian Railways or PERU Railways?”

An X user remarked, “The Digital India is now about Digital Peru! Next time, they’ll inaugurate the Eiffel Tower as the Statue of Unity. Keep up the good work, Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji, at this rate, even the moon might get its own Vande Bharat service soon!”

Another joked, “Ashwini Vaisnaw caught red handed using the footage of Peru Rail for PR of Vande Bharat. After Being Caught, He deleted that tweet and ran away. That day is not too far when the Reel Minister will share a video of Bullet train as Vande Bharat.”
