When A Young BJP MP’s Meeting With Donald Trump Ended On A Sour Note
Florida: Multiple delegations of Indian MPs were recently sent to several foreign countries to explain India’s stand on “Operation Sindoor”, the military campaign country launched against terrorist sites inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam attack. Notably, when the Indian delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, visited the United States as part of the global outreach, a young BJP MP who was part of the team, ended up in a purported embarrassment after trying to meet president Donald Trump, news portal Parliamentarian reported.
The report said that when the delegation reached the US, BJP ally Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora, who was a fellow delegate in the group, had a pre-scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump’s son and business executive, Donald Trump Jr. The meeting took place as per the plan. Driven by the political mileage, the BJP MP also tried to arrange his own meeting with Trump Jr, but the attempt turned out to be futile.

Irked by this, the MP declared to his colleagues that he would meet Donald Trump himself. With the help of a friend, the BJP MP was taken to Trump’s private residence in Florida—Mar-a-Lago, which has been Trump’s personal estate since 1985. When the MP arrived at the estate, he was introduced to the president as someone “very close to the country’s head,” the report noted.
However, President Trump’s approach towards the MP from India’s ruling party was disrespectful, with offhand remarks that were reportedly quite hurtful. The BJP MP then left the estate deeply embarrassed. Though the MP did not speak about the embarrassment he faced at Trump’s private residence, the news reached New Delhi.

The BJP leadership reportedly summoned the young MP and admonished him with a severe reprimand in the presence of three senior leaders. Though there were discussions about expelling the MP from the party, he was granted respite for now after tendering earnest apologies and repeated pleas, the report claimed.
Trump’s Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, where the BJP MP went to meet him, was a premium avenue which the president’s family uses to occasionally hold exclusive meetings with notable individuals there. Spread over 62,500 square feet with 126 rooms, Trump converted it into a private club in 1994.
