However, the Congress party has raised concerns over the formation of the delegations. Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary for communications, expressed disapproval, alleging the selection was unilateral despite formal outreach to party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The Congress had suggested Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Amarinder Singh Raja Brar, none of whom, barring Sharma, were included.
Ramesh called for a special parliamentary session to reaffirm the 1994 resolution on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, discuss India’s strategic posture post-Pahalgam, and address foreign policy concerns involving the US and China. He criticised the government’s abstention in IMF voting on a Pakistan loan and accused it of using the delegations as a diversion from a faltering narrative. Despite differences, he reiterated Congress’ support for unified global messaging against terrorism.
