California, US: Neelam Shinde, hailing from Maharashtra‘s Satara district is battling for her life in an American hospital after she met with a serious road accident on February 14. Currently, the 35-year-old is in coma and her family has sought Centre’s assistance to get an emergency visa to the US at the earliest.

Who Is Neelam Shinde? What Happened To Her?

Neelam Shinde is a final year Master of Science (MS) student at California State University. She has been living in the US for the past 4 years.

She was hit by a four-wheeler on February 14, while she was out on an evening walk.

She is admitted and undergoing treatment at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California.

Shinde has suffered multiple fractures and critical injuries to her head, hands, legs and a major injury in the chest.

As per the reports, a person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Shinde’s family got informed about the incident after two days through a roommate.

The hospital requested for family’s presence as soon as possible and took their permission to operate on her brain. Family said that the hospital is sending daily updates about her health condition.

Neelam Shinde’s uncle told the media that the family went to the passport office to get an urgent visa and also approached Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, former MP Shriniwas Patil, and former MLA Balasaheb Patil.

NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule raised the issue on social media and requested External Affairs minister S. Jaishankar to look into the matter and assist Shinde’s family.

Shinde lost her mother a year ago to brain tumour, NDTV reports.
