UPSC is one of the toughest exams in the world. Lakhs of students appear for it every year with the dream of becoming an IAS, IPS or IFS officer.

But only a few can clear it. Today, meet IAS Vaishali Singh, a law graduate from NLU Delhi, who cracked UPSC in her second attempt with All India Rank 8.

Who is IAS Vaishali Singh?

Vaishali Singh is from Faridabad, Haryana. Her parents are both lawyers in the Faridabad District Court. She completed her schooling in her hometown and then joined National Law University, Delhi, where she pursued a 5-year integrated BA LLB course.

During college, she interned with top law firms and later got a high-paying job in a reputable legal company. But she was not satisfied. Vaishali felt that law was not her true calling; she wanted to work for society and bring real change.

Vaishali decided to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In 2017, she gave her first attempt but did not clear the prelims. She had only studied for three months and felt underprepared.

Learning from her mistake, she planned her next attempt better. She followed a fixed routine, studied for 10 hours every day, and focused on writing practice. In 2018, Vaishali cracked the UPSC exam with AIR 8 in her second attempt.


Vaishali said if she had not cleared the exam, she would have started an NGO to help underprivileged students. Her goal was always to serve society, either as an IAS officer or through social work.
