UPSC Introduces Centre Of Choice For PwBD Candidates

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has brought an important facility for candidates with benchmark disabilities. Under the new policy, such candidates will now be assigned the exam centre of their choice while filling out the application form.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities will now be able to appear for all competitive examinations at the centres selected in their application. If a centre has reached its capacity for general candidates, the disabled candidates will still be able to choose that centre. UPSC will provide additional seats as needed to ensure that the preferences of candidates with disabilities are respected.

As per the UPSC chairman, Dr. Ajay Kumar, some centres, including Delhi, Cuttack, Patna, Lucknow, and others, reach their capacity ceiling early due to the high volume of applicants. This creates challenges for PwBD candidates, who are then compelled to opt for centres that may not be convenient for them. The PwBD candidates will be given assurity of assigning centres of being assigned to their preferences now.

This step will make the exam process easier and more convenient for candidates with disabilities. Long-distance travel and expenses will be reduced, and physical strain will be relieved for PwBD candidates. This move strengthen’s UPSC’s commitment to equal opportunity and inclusive governance and promotes the rights and dignity of candidates with special needs.
