The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will begin the application process for Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 from today, February 14. The notification and application link will be available on upsc.gov.in. Eligible and prospective candidates can visit the official website to apply online.

UPSC conducts CSE to recruit group A and B level officers to key government posts for Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), and Indian Revenue Services (IRS) including several other posts. Last year for the 2023-24 examination, UPSC announced vacancies for 1105 posts. Notably, the number of posts in the last decade remained above 1000, but during four consecutive years from 2018 to 2021, the seats were below a thousand.

The exam is conducted in three stages including Prelims, Mains, and Personality (Interview) tests. According to the exam schedule released earlier by UPSC, the CSE Prelims exam is expected to be held on May 26. UPSC CSE Mains exam will be held from Sep 20 for five days. Also, a common entrance test is conducted for Indian Forest Services and Other All India Services but the Main examination will be conducted separately.

It is worth mentioning that UPSC CSE is considered one of the toughest examinations in India. Recently While sharing a post of an IIT graduate who also took the UPSC exam, Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, revealed the difficulty level of the examination. The IIT graduate told him that the UPSC CSE is more difficult than the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
