UPSC Mains 2024: Strategy During Week Just Ahead Of The Exam

The Union Public Service Commission  (UPSC) has released the admit cards for the CSE Mains 2024 examination which are available on the commissions’s website. The Mains examination is schedule to start from September 20, 2024. Approximately 14,627 candidates will appear to write the written test of UPSC CSE 2024 and only 1/3rd of the total students will become eligible for the next round (personality test). Finally 1,056 candidates will be recommended for the posts under central government and 150 for the Indian Foreign Services.

The performance pressure is high among the candidates as the day of the examination come nearer. Aspriants must be juggling around the book shelves and notes, so nothing remain left out of their sight and memory. ‘How to cover maximum syllabus’ and ‘how to memorise everything that has been read’ is the main issue that aspirants face especially during the last days ahead of the exam.

‘Timeline’ reached to Viraj Rane,  faculty at GS SCORE, New Delhi to know about the strategy that aspirants must adopt just a week ago before the exam starts. Mr Rane suggested some ‘Dos’ and ‘Dont’s’ to follow.

  1. Do Not Read Something New: Viraj suggested aspirants to avoid starting something new topic or book. The time solely should be allocated to the revision. Aspirants are advised to revise whatever they have read.
  2. Revise From Notes: In the last week before the exam starts, Viraj asks aspirants to revise from personal notes instead of revising the whole books all together. This will make the memorisation much easier and less complex.
  3. Practice Question Paper Daily: According to the GS SCORE Political Science faculty, aspirants should set a 3 hour timer and should practice one question paper daily. This will help them to get into the flow of writing exam and to access their efficiency of answer writing. Viraj also said that it is not necessary that aspirants get their answers checked by someone or self-evaluate them, rather this process is just to train them to manage writing during the exam in a timebound manner.
