As per the new directive from the state administration in Kerala, two “dry days” will be observed on next month – June 1 and June 4.
As “dry day” observance on June 1 falls under usual practice, June 4 have been observed since its election result day.
Earlier, considering the Lok Sabha elections, “dry day” has been followed on two days in the State. All bars and BEVCO (Kerala State Beverages) outlets have been closed for 48 hours. The shops have been closed prior to voting on April 24, evening 6 PM, and opened on April 26, evening 6PM after the completion of voting.
Dry day practice is usually observed on first day of every month. On that day bars and all liquor outlets will be closed. It started to deter people from spending money excessively on liquor at the beginning of month when salaries are received.
Meanwhile, dry days are causing huge revenue loss to the government.
