Incessant rain lashed several parts of Kerala from last evening, and the Indian Meteorological Department has declared yellow and orange alerts in various districts of the state, according to reports.

Yellow alert has been declared in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikkode, Kannur, and Kasargod districts on September 8. The same has been announced for the districts of Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikkode on September 9.

The department has declared yellow alerts for Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikkode, Kannur, and Kasargod on September 11, according to a Mathrubhumi report.

The weather department said the rains is caused by cyclonic circulation looming over South Chhattisgarh and added that showers would be moderate except for a few isolated instances of heavy downpour between 7 – 10 September.
