No Proposal For Financial, Technical Assistance From Kerala Govt, Centre On Wayanad Tunnel Road Project

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Thursday, December 4, said that it has not received any proposal for financial and technical assistance from the Kerala government for the Wayanad Tunnel Road Project.

The Center said that the project is being developed by the Government of Kerala on State Road from its own resources. CPIM MP K Radhakrishnan had asked the Union Government if it proposes to extend financial and technical assistance to the Wayanad Tunnel project.

He further wondered whether the government is aware that this project is vital for improving connectivity between Wayanad in Kerala and Bengaluru in Karnataka and would significantly reduce travel time and vehicular congestion on the existing Thamarassery Ghat Road. He also asked the Union government about the steps to expedite the implementation of the said project.

To which, the ministry responded that the process for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been initiated for improvement works on the existing Thamarssery Ghat.

On the question regarding whether the government would consider declaring it a project of national importance, the ministry said it would be taken up based on the outcome of the DPR’s traffic, density and synergy with PM Gati-shakti’s main plan.
