Students Poll Violence: Calicut University Campus Shut Down Indefinitely
In the wake of violent incidents that began on Friday evening following the student body elections, the Calicut University campus and all its departments have been closed for an indefinite period. Vice Chancellor Dr. P Raveendran announced that the measure is to restore peace and ensure the safety of students.
“Classes will remain suspended until further notice, and hostels have also been ordered to close. All students have been instructed to vacate the hostels immediately and return home until further announcements are made,” a statement from the University said.
Following the polling on Friday, large scale violence between the student groups were reported in which students of UDF affiliated UDSF and CPI(M)-affiliated SFI clashed. There is a huge police presence in the campus.
