Who Is Rini Ann George, & What Are Her Allegations Against Congress MLA

Malayalam actor and former journalist Rini Ann George publicly accused a young politician of sending her offensive messages and inviting her to a hotel.

While she did not name the leader, the BJP has directly pointed fingers at Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, demanding his resignation. The issue has intensified after writer Honey Bhaskaran also came forward with similar allegations.

Rini Ann George, known for her role in Malayalam cinema 916 Kunjoottan, and her earlier career as a journalist, revealed during an interview that a youth leader from a major political party repeatedly sent her inappropriate messages.

According to her, the leader went so far as to invite her to a hotel. When she warned him that she would inform his party leadership, he reportedly brushed it off, challenging her to “go ahead.”

Meeting the media, Rini said she had already informed the party about the incidents, but no action was taken. She further alleged that the wives and daughters of several politicians had also faced similar experiences with the same leader. “I want to ask which woman these politicians, who were unable to protect the women in their families, will protect?” she asked.

Explaining why she chose to go public now, Rini said, “I decided to speak as I saw recently on social media that many women have faced similar issues. None of these women is speaking a word about it. So I thought of speaking for all.”

Following Rini’s revelation, writer Honey Bhaskaran posted on Facebook that she, too, had faced harassment from Rahul Mamkootathil. She said he repeatedly messaged her on social media, initially under the pretext of discussing travel. When his intentions became clear, she stopped responding.

Honey alleged that Rahul later twisted the narrative by portraying her as the one who initiated conversations. “People also need to know the psycho in you who goes out there and talks to women and portrays their conversations as bad among perverts. That’s what this post is for,” she wrote.

She further added that women within the Youth Congress had also filed complaints about similar behaviour, but no disciplinary action was taken against him.

The allegations have sparked a political storm. The BJP held a march towards Rahul Mamkootathil’s office in Palakkad, demanding that he resign from his position as MLA and as the state president of the Youth Congress.

Rahul, however, has brushed aside the calls for resignation. Speaking to the media, he said he “who cares” about the demands, remarking that “maybe she will talk about you tomorrow,” suggesting the accusations could be aimed at anyone.

Opposition Leader VD Satheesan acknowledged that the party had received a complaint only now and assured that action would be taken against the accused, “whoever it is.”
