Here’s Why Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Was Arrested After A Third Rape Complaint
Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was arrested by Kerala Police early Sunday following the registration of a third rape complaint against him.
The arrest was made around 12.30 am from a hotel in Palakkad, after which he was produced before a court and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
The fresh complaint was filed by a woman from Pathanamthitta who is currently working in Canada.
As per the complaint, the survivor alleged that she met Mamkootathil through social media when she was going through difficulties in her marriage. She claimed the expelled MLA entered into a relationship with her, promised marriage, and pressured her to leave her husband.
The woman further accused him of repeated sexual assault, financial exploitation and forcing her to undergo an abortion. She told investigators that Mamkootathil had insisted on having a child, claiming it would help secure his family’s approval for their marriage.

The survivor also alleged that Mamkootathil avoided cooperating with a DNA test after she became pregnant.
According to the reports, she has submitted supporting evidence to the investigation team, including documents and communication records. Police sources said the arrest was carried out swiftly after the third complaint was filed, as the allegations were serious in nature.
In a disturbing development, chats allegedly sent by Mamkootathil to the survivor have also surfaced on social media.
The leaked messages reportedly show the former MLA threatening the survivor and attempting to intimidate her into silence. Police are examining the authenticity of these chats as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to the survivor’s statement, Mamkootathil refused to meet her in public, citing his position as a public figure.
She alleged that he asked her to book a hotel room in Palakkad, where she was subjected to a brutal sexual assault. Police said the probe is progressing strictly based on evidence and witness statements, and further legal action will follow as the investigation moves ahead.
Rahul Mamkootathil was expelled from the Congress after the first set of rape allegations surfaced. With a third complaint now registered, the case has taken a more serious turn.
