Rahul Mamkootathil Seeks Anticipatory Bail In Sexual Assault Case: Court to Hear Plea Today

Palakkad MLA and former Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil has approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the sexual assault case filed against him.

The bail plea will be heard today at the Thiruvananthapuram Principal District and Sessions Court.

Rahul submitted his application on Thursday, stating in his petition that he had a long-standing friendship with the complainant and that the allegations made against him are false and fabricated.

He has denied all charges, including rape and forcing the woman to undergo an abortion. His plea also alleges that the police acted with unusual speed, which he claims is the result of political pressure. Rahul said he is ready to fully cooperate with the investigation.

Meanwhile, the police have formed a special investigation team to probe the case. The team is led by ACP V. S. Dhinraj, with DCP Deepak Dinkar supervising the investigation. City Police Commissioner Thomson Jose said the special team will begin work immediately.

The FIR contains serious allegations. According to the complaint, the incident took place on March 4, 2025, when Rahul allegedly assaulted the survivor at her flat and forced her into a sexual relationship.

On March 17, he allegedly threatened her and recorded her nude visuals. The FIR says he repeatedly threatened to destroy her life if she revealed the relationship, and continued to harass her even after knowing she was pregnant.

Another accused, Rahul’s friend Joby Joseph from Adoor, has also been charged. According to the FIR, on May 30, 2025, Joby allegedly took the woman in a car in Thiruvananthapuram Kaimanam and gave her pills to induce an abortion.

The survivor’s secret statement has been recorded before the Neyyattinkara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court due to the seriousness of the allegations.

The case was registered at the Vattiyoorkavu Police Station, and non-bailable sections have been applied.
