Woman Files Complaint Against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil; Voice Clips Claim Pressure For Abortion

A woman on Thursday met Pinarayi Vijayan, Chief Minister of Kerala, at the Secretariat and formally filed a complaint alleging repeated sexual exploitation, forced medical termination of pregnancy and death threats by Rahul Mamkootathil, MLA from Palakkad.

In voice and text messages that have now come to light, the woman claims Rahul repeatedly pressured her, even when she said she was unwell and unable to eat or speak properly.

According to the records, at one point she told him: “I’m not well, I have vomiting… I can’t eat or talk to anyone,” to which he allegedly responded: “Stop this drama… go to the hospital first.”

In another message, when she questioned a sudden plan to abort their unborn child, she reportedly asked: “Who was saying they wanted a baby? Why such a last-minute change?”

She also alleges continued intimidation, including explicit threats, after being made to undergo a medical termination against her will.

Allegations against Rahul Mamkootathil first surfaced in August 2025, when actor and former journalist Rini Ann George hinted on social media that a young Kerala political leader had sent her inappropriate messages and invited her to a hotel room.

She didn’t name anyone, but the post sparked protests in Palakkad, with BJP and CPI(M) leaders claiming she was referring to Rahul.

Soon after, writer Honey Bhaskaran also accused Rahul of sending her obscene messages in the past. She said she ignored the texts but later learned that Rahul had told colleagues she was interested in him.

A Malayalam TV channel then released a voice clip, allegedly of Rahul speaking to a woman about her pregnancy and expressing fear that the child’s paternity would create problems for him. Rahul denied the clip, calling it “fake” and “doctored”.

More screenshots of sexually explicit chats, reportedly between Rahul and a woman Congress worker, soon began circulating. As the scandal grew, the Congress suspended him and removed him from all party roles, including Kerala Youth Congress president.

The resurfacing of these audio clips and her fresh complaint against him to the Chief Minister puts renewed pressure on the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), which has already been under scrutiny.
