Forced Abortions Of Two Women: Crime Branch Tracks Hospital Trail In Rahul Mamkootathil Case
The sexual harassment scandal involving Congress MLA and former Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil has taken a more disturbing turn, with the Kerala Crime Branch reportedly uncovering evidence that two women were forced to undergo abortions.
Investigators are now focusing on a Bengaluru hospital where the procedures are said to have taken place, marking a grim escalation in a case that has already rattled the state’s political establishment, reported Mathrubhumi News on Tuesday.
According to Mathrubhumi News, investigators have received crucial information suggesting that two women were compelled to undergo abortions linked to the MLA.

The probe has zeroed in on a hospital in Bengaluru, where at least one of the procedures allegedly took place. Officials told Mathrubhumi News that they are in the process of collecting records from the facility to establish a timeline and identify those involved. Investigators are also examining whether there was any coercion or pressure exerted on the women to terminate their pregnancies.
While the women themselves have yet to file any direct complaints, the Crime Branch is reportedly working to locate them and record their statements. Officials told Mathrubhumi News, if they fear reprisals, steps will be taken to ensure protection and encourage them to come forward.
Earlier, explosive audio clips surfaced in which a voice, purportedly belonging to Mamkootathil, could be heard threatening a pregnant woman with dire consequences if she refused an abortion.
The MLA has not responded to these latest revelations, but he continues to face mounting public pressure following his resignation as Youth Congress state president.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already taken a firm stance, calling the allegations “deeply criminal and unacceptable.” He has directed the police to pursue all legal options, even in the absence of formal complaints.
An FIR has been lodged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita for stalking and criminal intimidation, along with provisions of the Kerala Police Act related to online harassment.
The scandal has further strained the Congress in Kerala, where women leaders have openly demanded Mamkootathil’s resignation as MLA. However, critics within the party say their voices are being sidelined, exposing a deeper crisis of gender representation and accountability in the organisation.
