Attacking the Assam Chief minister Himanta Sarma for his comments on Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, the Congress general Secretary Jairam Ramesh today took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying that the Assam chief minister is rattled and nervous by the tremendous response being received by the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra over the past two days in Assam.

The Congress leader pointed out that the visuals from the Yatra itself speak that the people from all sections of Assam’s diverse society, including people of all ages have been enthusiastically welcoming Rahul Gandhi. The Yatra has reached Assam on Thursday morning, creating political waves across the state.

Himanta Sarma had yesterday said that the congress is representing one section of Muslims, and even the Muslim women would not come to the Congress rallies. He said that only Muslim men would come to the rally. Bengali-speaking Muslim communities are often referred to as Miya Muslims in Assam and the chief minister said that in places where there are Miyas (Muslims) there will be people in the rally and in the places where there is no Miya there will be no crowd. The chief minister also labelled the Gandhi family “the most corrupt family in the country,” as a response to the Rahul Gandhi”s allegation that the Assam government is the most corrupt.

However, the congress party has accused the Assam government of creating hindrances to the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra. Jairam Ramesh in a press conference on Thursday said that the Himanta Biswa Sarma government is actively working to ‘ensure that Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra is not a success’

“We are in Assam till 25th January. The state government is making all efforts to ensure that Bharat Jodo Yatra is not a success here. Assam government posing hurdles to the yatra, but we have faith that all sections of Assam including youth and women will listen to what Rahul Gandhi has to say, Jairam Ramesh said.

The state government has registered an FIR against the Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra stating that it violated safety measures and did not adhere to the district administration’s norms. the Assam chief minister has also warned that the case will be filed against “two bad elements” in the rally after the Lok Sabha election.

Discarding the chief minister”s intimidation, the Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi today said that people are with the Congress party. “We will not be scared of anyone or any FIR. In a democracy, no government can stop us.” he said.

However, the social media post shared by Jairam Ramesh today further noted that the Assam chief minister can abuse and defame, he can threaten and intimidate but the congress is not afraid. “He is obviously disturbed by the huge impact of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which will continue in Assam for another 6 days in spite of his continuing efforts to derail it,” Jairam Ramesh wrote.
