Bijuli Kalita Won The Guwahati Constituency Of Assam

Representing the Guwahati constituency for more than a decade, BJP has once again stamped itself in it, as Bijuli Kalita Medhi won this Lok Sabha election pushing back her rival with a margin of 2,51,090 votes.

Guwahati constituency has been a significant battleground of the Lok Sabha elections with different parties representing it so far. And BJP has been winning the constituency since the 2009 election. This time it grabbed the attention of the public since it was a battle between the two powerful women Bijuli Kalita of BJP and Mira Borthakur Goswami of Congress. Bijuli Kalita won this election as she secured 8,94,887 votes and her rival Mira Borthakur Goswami secured 6,43,797 votes.

BJP had rooted itself in Guwahati through the victory of Queen Oja in 2019 and Bijoya Chakraborty in 2014 and 2009. In this Lok Sabha election, the party replaced the then-sitting MP Queen Oja with Bujuli, the vice president of the Assam BJP. From being a teacher, she started her political journey by joining the BJP party in 2013 and was elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Guwahati, respectively in 2016.

Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency belongs to the north-eastern state of Assam and is one of the 14 seats that represent this exotic state in the country. This constituency has a significant weight of about 1,922,270 eligible voters scattered among Hindus dominating while there is a sizeable over 30 percent Muslim population, along with Bodos, Karbis, and Rabha tribes.
