Bujuli Kalita Leading In The Women's Battle Of Guwahati

BJP which has been ruling Guwahati for more than a decade with its past three consecutive wins is likely to set its mark again in Guwahati, with Bujuli Kalita Medhi leading with 7,87,427 votes fighting against Mira Borthakur of Congress.

Guwahati constituency had witnessed a heavy battle between the two powerful women candidates with BJP’s Bujuli Kalita Medhi replacing Queen Oja and  Mira Borthakur fielded on the congress ticket.

As the constituency awaits the result of this significant battle, the numbers released by the Election Commission so far, have already determined the victory of the BJP as Bujuli Kalita Medhi leading with 7,87,427 pushing back Mira Borthakur of Congress behind who have secured 5,86,886 votes so far.

Guwahati constituency has been a significant battleground of the Assam Lok Sabha elections with different parties representing the constituency so far. This 2024 Lok Sabha election witnessed a battle between two women candidates of BJP and Congress, as both the parties have fielded Bujuli Kalita Medhi and Barthakur Goswami respectively.

BJP had been ruling this constituency for a decade through the victory of Queen Oja in 2019 and Smt. Bijoya Chakraborty in 2014 and 2009. In this Lok Sabha election, Bujuli, the vice president of the Assam BJP had contested in the BJP ticket, replacing the then sitting MP Queen Oja. From being a teacher, Bujiuli started her political journey by joining the BJP party in 2013 and was elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Guwahati, respectively in 2016.
