Following Father’s Foot Steps, Gowaal K Padavi Hoping To Represent Nandurbar

The 32-year lawyer turned politician Gowaal is contesting on a Congress ticket in the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha elections. He is a practicing lawyer in Mumbai High Court. Dr Heena Vijaykumar Gavit is the BJP candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Shivaji’s land is also dominated by the regional parties along with the significant representation of national parties. Here in the Nandurbar seat, people will cast their votes on May 13, 2024.

Gowal Padavi, the new face of the Congress party in Maharashtra is the son of K C Padavi, an MLA from Akkalkuwa in the Nandurbar assembly, and a senior Congress leader from a tribal community. In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, Dr Heena Vijaykumar Gavit won the elections defeating adv K C Padavi of Congress. Gowal Padavi played a key role in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the constituency and won the national leaders’ trust in getting the seat.

Nandurbar parliamentary constituency is made up of 6 assembly segments named Akkalkuwa, Shahada, Nandurbar, Navapur, Sakri, and Shirpur. In the last assembly elections, 3 assembly seats were won by BJP and 2 by INC. In the last general elections, the BJP candidate secured 49.86% of the votes which was two percent below its 51.89% votes share of 2014.  Whereas INC won 42.40% of the seats during the 2019 elections registering a slight uptick in the number of votes.

The constituency had been a traditional stronghold of the Congress, however, BJP won the two consecutive Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019. In the last general elections, BJP won 23 out of a total of 48 seats in Maharashtra and Shiv Sena won 18 seats.

Nandurbar is an ST category parliament seat with a 57.7% literacy rate. The constituency has a majority of ST population with 56.74% of its total population. SC and Muslims constitute 4.01% and 6.95% of its total population.
