Gaurav Gogoi: To Mark His Win In Jorhat

Gaurav Gogoi, a candidate of the Indian National Congress, competing in the Jorhat constituency of the Assam Lok Sabha Election 2024, has been serving as the deputy leader of the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha Elections since 2020.

Gaurav Gogi marked his political debut during the 2014 Lok Sabha election by contesting in the Kaliabor constituency, which was first represented by his father and the former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, and then by his uncle Dip Gogoi. Gaurav Gogoi defeated his closest rival Mirnal Kumar Saikia of the BJP by securing 38% of the votes, which was a total of 443,315 votes.

In the 2019 election, Mr. Gogoi won the Kaliabor constituency by securing 55.18% of the votes which is a total of 786,092 votes. Gaurav Gogoi has been one of the youth faces of the Congress and has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has been raising important questions in the parliament.

Being one of the most vocal critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he also leads a “no-confidence motion” against the BJP government, questioning the government’s silence on the Manipur violence.

For the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Gaurav Gogoi was forced to move to Jorhat from his traditional seat of Kaliabor after it ceased to exist and a new constituency Kaziranga was created after the delimitation exercise in August last year. In Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi will be up against BJP”s Topon Kumar Gogoi, who defeated Congress candidate Sushanta Borgohain by over 80,000 votes in 2019.
