When Internet Had No Mercy On Galgotias University

Edited by Fathimathu Shana

Recently, a viral video featuring the students of Galgotias University has sparked laughter and controversy across the internet. The video showed students from the University protesting outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi. The video was captured by Aaj Tak, and what happened was a series of bemusing encounters. While most of the students did not have a clue on why they were there, they responded that they came to vote against the Congress and support BJP.

When asked why are they protesting, one of the students replied that they are protesting for a better and developed India. What made the University students prey to the merciless trolling on online platform was their own antics seen in the video. One student admitted about being clueless of the Congress manifesto, and several others were seen struggling to decipher what is actually printed on the placards they were carrying.

When the reporter asked the students to read the placard, some showed difficulty in reading and when asked about the meaning, they replied, they didn’t know. Meanwhile, one student said the protest is against the recently released Congress manifesto. When the reporter asked what is in the manifesto, the student said, he does not know it completely.

While the protest appeared to touch on a marathon of issues, ranging from inheritance tax, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance on ‘mangalsutra’, urban naxalism and women empowerment, the clarity on the actual purpose of the protest remained elusive.

One of the students said that the BJP is saying that they would give everything that is needed, except no vote should go for Congress.

The video has caught the netizens’ attention in no time and became prey for severe castigations on the University students’ apparent lack of awareness. Questions regarding the decision of a private university to allow such protest especially against a political party, were also raised. Several others came forward criticising the importance of holding basic knowledge about the political weather of the country, especially among the youth, who comprise a sizeable portion of eligible voters in the ongoing Lok Sabha election.

Reportedly, the students did not actually know why they were there. They were said that they would get good internal marks and will get a chance to meet Kangana Ranaut.
