Man Dies After Swallowing Live Chick In Superstitious Bid For Child
Chhattisgarh: Triggered by a suspected superstitious belief, a man from Chhattisgarh swallowed a live chick, leading to his death due to suffocation recently. It is reported that the man, Anand Kumar Yadav, 35, was told that gulping down the chick would fulfill his dream of having a child.
The incident occurred in Ambikapur town of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh, and the victim was a resident of Chhindkalo village near Ambikapur. Yadav was depressed over not having a child and resorted to local tantric practices in pursuit of a solution.
After the tantric advised him to swallow a live black chick as part of a ritual, promising him that it would give him a child, Yadav swallowed the chick and fell unconscious. Though he was rushed to the hospital, the man could not be saved.

Doctored declared the victim died due to blocking of his air pipe as the chick got struck in his throat. The chick had also died during the process, Times of India quoted doctors in Ambikapur Medical College Hospital.
The doctors had discovered the chick in a state of being struck in the man’s throat during the postmortem. They concluded that the cause of death was asphyxiation caused by the chick blocking his airway.

Locals from the villages say that the couple was frustrated due to not having a child years after getting married, and the Anad had been under the influence of tantric rituals for some time and had sought guidance from the practice.
The family members have said that Anad collapsed after taking a bath and was later declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. They have not disclosed many details about the tragic death.
