Argentine legend Lionel Messi helped Inter Miami win the Leagues Cup against Nashville SC on Saturday. This is 44th trophy of the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player who won the Qatar football World Cup with his national side last year. Lionel Messi scored early in regulation and converted the first penalty kick for the Miami side as they defeated Nashville SC 10-9 on penalties to win the final on Saturday night.
Reportedly, with this achievement, Lionel Messi now has most trophies in his as a footballer.
Messi scored his 10th goal in seven games since joining Inter Miami, all in the Leagues Cup competition. He converted in the 23rd minute after dribbling past Nashville defender Walker Zimmerman and unleashing a bending shot from just outside the penalty box.
Nashville tied the game in the 56th minute, but Inter Miami held on for the draw in regulation. In the penalty shootout, Messi, Drake Callender, and Leonardo Campana all scored their kicks for Inter Miami. Callender then made a save on Nashville”s 10th penalty kick to clinch the victory.
It was Inter Miami”s first win in a final. The team has been struggling in MLS this season, but they have found success in the Leagues Cup.

Lionel Messi was named the Leagues Cup Most Valuable Player or MVP. He said he was happy to help Inter Miami win the title.

The Leagues Cup is a competition between teams from Major Soccer League and Liga MX. It was created in 2019 as a way to promote football in North America.
