Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou has been nominated for the FIFA goal keeper award.

Bounou alongside Real Madrid and Belgium star Thibaut Courtois, Brazil’s Ederson, Andre Onana from Cameroon, and Germany’s Marc Andre ter Stegen are nominated for the title.

Yassine Bounou, former Sevilla superstar now plays for Saudi club Al Hilal is also nominated for two other awards. Making the event even sweater he is nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or alongside a number of other world-class footballers, including Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe.

Bounou gained immense popularity after his appearance in the Qatar World Cup 2022 after finishing in fourth, and being the only Arab and African team to qualify for the semifinals.

Onana who now plays for the Manchester United, led Inter Milan to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Thibaut Courtois will be the one and only  sole representative for Real Madrid across all categories for men’s football.

This year there will be only a little presence of the Brazilian presence in the ceremony. Apart from Vinicius Junior who have managed to be among the 30 contenders for the Ballon d’Or, the only Brazilian to be nominated is Brazil’s goalkeeper Ederson.

Ederson was nominated for his excellent performances with Manchester City, having played a key role in their conquest of Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.

FIFA announced the nominees on Thursday, September 14, 2023, with voting opened till Friday, October 6, as reported by fifa.com.
