India’s unbeaten win streak hits a massive setback as the star all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s return to the remaining tournament matches was ruled out.

Pandya, after he injured his ankle during the match against Bangladesh, has already missed few matches but was expected to return for semi-finals. Pandya will be replaced by Prasidh Krishna in the squad after the approval of World Cup Technical Committee on Saturday, said International Cricket Council (ICC).

Due to his injury, he was being treated at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He has taken to social media on Saturday to pass on his best wishes to his teammate on their journey to claim third World Cup title and second in their homeland.

“Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I”ll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I”m sure we”ll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP,” he wrote on X.

Pandya’s replacement Krishna will appear in the Sunday’s crucial match against South Africa. India and South Africa occupies the top two positions in the point table. The result of the Sunday match will decide which team will be lucky to finish the group stage of the tournament in first spot.

The right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna has taken 33 wickets in his 19 ODI appearances so far and will compete against the likes of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah for a place in India’s pace bowling line-up.

Hardik Pandya was expected to join the squad on Friday after the speculation that Pandya has returned to Mumbai before the match against Sri Lanka. But unfortunately, he did not join the team on Friday, says cricbuzz. The team management was not in a hurry to rush him back in the team since India has already qualified for the finals. The replacement news of Pandya on Saturday came in surprise to the Indian fans all around the world.
