Real Madrid has confirmed that Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with gastroenteritis and is currently, undergoing treatment at the hospital. He may miss the remaining group matches of the FIFA Club World Cup. The French international was absent during the opening match against Al Hilal on Wednesday.

“Our player Kylian Mbappé has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalized for various tests and treatment,” the La Liga side said in a statement.

A club source confirmed to Reuters that Mbappe had been isolated from his teammates since Tuesday and was considered out of the group stage of the Club World Cup.

Real Madrid Coach Xabi Alonso had hinted earlier that Mbappe’s presence in the next game against Mexican side Pachuca would be doubtful.

Initially, Mbappe’s problem was described as fever but Madrid has now confirmed the treatment. Mbappe began to feel unwell on Monday and was barely strong enough to leave his hotel room in the following days. He showed little signs of recovering naturally. The 26-year-old was transferred to a hospital for further treatment, according to the reports of Marca.

Mbappe joined the Los Blancos from Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the 2024-25 season. He went on to score 31 goals in 34 games in La Liga while he netted seven in 14 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

In the revamped Club World Cup, Real Madrid is placed in Group H alongside Al Hilal, RB Salzburg, and Pachuca. Austrian side Salzburg is currently leading the group after beating Pachuca 2-1.
