Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj has officially taken on the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on October 11. The Indian pacer reported to Dr Jitender IPS, Telangana DGP, on Friday and was accompanied by M Anil Kumar Yadav MP and Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, Vice Chairman and President, TGMREIS.
Earlier, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had announced that Siraj would receive a prestigious Group-I government position after the Indian cricket team including Siraj won the ICC T-20 World Cup-2024.
Mohammed Siraj, born on March 13, 1994, in Hyderabad, India, rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most promising fast bowlers in international cricket. His father was an auto-rickshaw driver, and Siraj’s journey from playing street cricket to representing India is an inspiring tale of grit and determination.
He first made waves in domestic cricket with Hyderabad and later in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Siraj debuted for India in 2017 during a T20I series against New Zealand. His most notable breakthrough came during the 2020-21 Test series in Australia, where he led the injury-hit Indian bowling attack, taking a five-wicket haul in Brisbane and helping India win the series.
Siraj’s ability to generate pace, swing, and his control under pressure have made him a regular in all formats. He was also instrumental in India’s victory in the 2023 Asia Cup, taking a remarkable 6/21 in the final against Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister emphasised his government’s commitment to supporting sports and athletes in the state, with plans to nurture future stars. Mohammed Siraj expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the CM for this honour. M Anil Kumar Yadav and Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi thanked Chief Minister for this gesture.
They highlighted the CM’s dedication to promoting sports, mentioning the vision to establish a Sports University to develop athletes across Telangana. They also noted the ongoing efforts to integrate sports facilities statewide under the CM’s guidance and stated that work on establishment of Young India Sports University was also on the high pace.
