Rishabh Pant Returns To India Squad For 1st Test Against Bangladesh

Rishabh Pant returned to the Team India squad for the first Test against Bangladesh, starting September 19 in Chennai. It completes a return in all three formats for the premier wicketkeeper-batter after his comeback in T20s in the World Cup 2024 and ODIs during the tour of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Bengal fast bowler Akash Deep has been called up in the Team India squad as the third seamer along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. He made his debut against England in Ranchi, earlier this year, and was picked into the side after his impressive performance for India A and Duleep  Trophy.

The spin quartet will feature the regulars of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav to choose from.

India squad for first Test: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.

KL Rahul has also made a return to the side after being sidelined since the Test series against England due to a quadriceps injury while Mukesh Kumar, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, and KS Bharat have been dropped after that series.

The Indian Cricket Board is still to announce the squad for the second Test, slated to get underway from September 27 in Kanpur. India will host Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series from October 6, following the two-Test.
