Veteran Indian Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi entered the US Open mixed doubles quarter-finals on Sunday.
Bopanna and Sutjiadi overcame the Australian-Czech Republic pair of John Pears and Katerina Siniakova 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 in the second-round match that lasted for an hour and 13 minutes.
The eighth-seeded pair will face higher-seeded Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova in the quarter-finals on Tuesday. They had defeated the German-Dutch pair of 7-6(7), 7-6(5) Tim Puetz and Demi Schuurs in the opening round.
Bopanna, who climbed to the World No.1 rankings after his first major doubles title at the 2024 Australian Open with Matthew Ebden, entered the third round of the men’s doubles after a 6-2, 6-4 win over Spain’s Roberto Carballes Baena and Federico Coria from Argentina.
The second-seeded pair of Bopanna-Ebden will take on the sixteenth pair of Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina in the Round of 16 clash on Monday.
