Rohan Bopanna Becomes Oldest Man To Win A Grand Slam

Rohan Bopanna of India made history at the Australian Open 2024 by becoming the oldest man to win a Grand Slam.

Teaming up with Matthew Ebden, Bopanna, who is on the verge of turning 44 in March, secured the men”s doubles title.

His triumph also marked him as the oldest number one in men”s doubles history. The second-seeded duo clinched victory with a 7-6 (7/0), 7-5 win over the unseeded Italian pair Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori on Rod Laver Arena.

This victory marked their first title together as a team and Bopanna”s inaugural men”s doubles triumph after competing in 60 previous Grand Slams—a record for the most attempts before securing victory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Bopanna for his historic performance.

”Time and again, the phenomenally talented Rohan Bopanna shows age is no bar! Congratulations to him on his historic Australian Open win. His remarkable journey is a beautiful reminder that it is always our spirit, hard work and perseverance that define our capabilities. Best wishes for his future endeavours,” PM Modi said in an X post.
