Veteran India tennis star Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi entered the US Open mixed doubles quarter-finals on Monday night.
The eighth-seeded Indian-Indonesian clinched a 7-6(4) 2-6 10-7 win over the fourth-seeded pair of Australian Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic to enter the final four round in a match that lasted for an hour and 33 minutes.
Bopanna and Sutjiadi had earlier defeated the Australian-Czech Republic pair of John Pears and Katerina Siniakova 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 in the second-round match that lasted for an hour and 13 minutes.
The Indian-Indonesian pair will face off against the American pair of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in the semi-finals.
Earlier, the 44-year-old had already crashed out of the men’s doubles in the Round of 16, after registering a 1-6, 5-7 to the 16th-seeded Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. The Bopanna-Sutjiadi pair were seeded second in the event.
