Rising India opener Shubman Gill has been handed the responsibility of leading a young national team for the Zimbabwe tour, starting from July 6 in Harare.
The right-handed batter has featured in 14 T20Is since making his debut in January 2024 and has been named as a reserve in Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He holds an average of 25.76 with the highest score of an unbeaten 126 in the shortest format.
The 15-member squad includes T20 World Cup 2024 wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and reserve Rinku Singh while Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande received their maiden Team India call-up following their fine performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Interestingly, Tilak Varma missed out on the squad after delivering fine performances for Mumbai Indians in the lucrative tournament while Dhruv Jurel has been named as the second-choice wicketkeeper-batter in the squad.
The first T20I will be played on July 6 while the second match will take place on 7th. There will be a two-day break after the tight start to the series with the third match slated to take place on the 10th with the fourth and fifth matches scheduled to commence on the 13th and 14th respectively.
