Team India Wear Black Armbands Against Afghanistan To Pay Homage To David Johnson

Team India wore black armbands on Thursday to pay homage to former fast bowler David Johnson during the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Afghanistan.

Johnson, 52, passed away earlier on Thursday after falling from the fourth floor of his apartment. He is survived by his wife and two children. The Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X to notify about the incident.

“Team India will wear black armbands today in memory of former Indian fast bowler David Johnson, who passed away on Thursday,” the BCCI said on X.

As per a statement from the Kothanur police station, “It is believed that 52-year-old David Jude Johnson fell from his apartment in Kanaka Sri Layout in Kothanur. A UDR (unnatural death report) has been filed at the Kothanur police station”.

“The body is taken for postmortem to the Ambedkar Medical College Hospital at Shampura main road,” it added.

It is understood that Johnson was admitted to St Philomena’s Hospital last week after complaining of acute stomach pain. He was battling several health issues before breathing his last.

“None of his family members have raised any suspicion. It was a ‘self-fall’ and there is no eyewitness to the incident. Neither, there was a suicide note,” the police said, adding a probe was nonetheless being conducted.
