Team India began a new Test era, under the tutelage of Gautam Gambhir, with a 2-0 clean sweep over Bangladesh.
Courtesy of their seven-wicket victory in the Kanpur Test on Tuesday, the hosts consolidated their top position in the World Test Championship (WTC), with 98 points and 74.24 percent. The Rohit Sharma-led side had clinched the first Test in Chennai by a mammoth 280-run margin.
Speaking about the transition of playing under a new coach, the Team India captain said: “We all keep going. Obviously, at some stage, we had to start working with different personnel. When Rahul bhai said he was done being here – we had a fantastic time but life moves on
“We all have to move on. Gautam Gambhir, I’ve played with him and know what sort of mindset he comes in with and allows players to go and play the way they want to play. Early days but it’s been a good start. We had to think a lot about how the game can keep moving forward.
After opting to bat, the Day 2 and 3 of the second Test, were washed out due to a wet outfield after it drizzled in intervals on Saturday.
However, the hosts returned with an all-guns-blazing approach to take a narrow lead on Day 4, after the match resumed and removed two early wickets to put the visitors on the backfoot at stumps.
Later, on the final day, premier India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja spun a web around the visiting batters while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah struck thrice to bundle out Bangladesh to 146 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the 95-run chase from the front.
“Once we lost two and a half days, when we came on day 4 we wanted to get them out as quickly as possible and see what we can do with the bat. All depended on how many runs they get. When they got bowled out for 230, it wasn’t about the runs we get but the overs we wanted to bowl at them. Which meant we had to try and up the run rate and score as many as possible,” Rohit said.
Team India will next take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, starting from Sunday.
