Tottenham Hotspur annihilated Manchester United to a 0-3 loss in the Premier League clash at the Old Trafford on Sunday.

Brennan Johnson (3′), Dejan Kulusevski (47′), and Dominic Solanke (77′) netted one goal each to take Tottenham Hotspur to the sixth spot after an incredible showing against 10-man Manchester United.

The opening goal was produced via one of the best-ever assists in the Premier League as the visitors’ center-back Micky Van de Ven intercepted the ball ahead of the two Manchester United players and ran the length off the field to cross the ball to his right where Johnson seized the opportunity with a brilliant finish.

Following the goal, Van de Ven admitted that he didn’t see the goal coming.

“I intercepted the ball and saw the gap,” he recalled. “Then I decided ‘I’m going’. When I got to the box I knew Brennan would be at the back post so just hit it hard between the goalkeeper and the defender. I didn’t even see the goal because I was falling down some stairs!”

Incidentally, the Dutch defender has a habit of producing such long runs across the field. He had produced a similar assist against Everton for Son Heung-min, earlier this season.

Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou was a defender in his playing days. When asked if he could have produced an assist like Van de Ven’s, he said: “Nowhere near it. Micky’s a brilliant footballer, a brilliant defender. A great person. It’s the second time this season he’s ran nearly the length of the field to set someone up!”
