All is not well at Manchester United. The club struggled to salvage a point against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, registering their worst start to the Premier League season at the 14th spot with eight points from the first seven fixtures.
It also seemed like Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Hag and his assistant Dutchman Ruud Van Nistelrooy were not on the same page when cameras panned at them during a discussion at Villa Park.
The on-lookers during their scrappy display on Sunday included the club’s top brass, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, Sir Dave Brailsford, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth, and Jason Wilcox, who are set to meet again in London on Tuesday for a long-standing meeting.
Manchester United’s chief financial officer Roger Bell and chief operating officer Collette Roche, a part of the INEOS group, are also set to be a part of the once-in-a-month meeting. The objective of the meeting is not known, with the club earlier releasing a plan to regenerate the Trafford Park, and the club CEO claiming that they were targeting the 2027-28 Premier League title during an interaction last month.
The speculations around their first team manager’s future remain rife. Although, Ten Hag, feels the support of the management at this point.
“I don’t have any idea that is different because they should have told me (if not). We communicate very openly and transparently,” he said on Sunday.
“I speak continuously with them,” the Dutchman added. “Every week, I would say every day, we talk, so I expect I will speak with them.”
It is also understood that the final call on Ten Hag’s future will come from the three-person committee, including, Ratcliffe, co-chair Glazer and INEOS director of sport Brailsford. Their conclusions will be based on the reports submitted by Berrada, Ashworth, and Wilcox.
