Search giant Google has recently rolled out new generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for the Chrome browser. The latest features will be available on Chrome for Mac and Windows computers. Google is making constant efforts to develop generative AI features to make searching the web easier, safer, and more accessible.
“We”re introducing experimental generative AI features to make it even easier and more efficient to browse — all while keeping your experience personalized to you,” wrote Google in a blog post while announcing the new features. The recently announced Chrome features will help users organize their tabs, customise Google Chrome themes, and get assistance while writing on the web.
With the new Tab Organizer feature, the Chrome browser will automatically suggest and create tab groups based on the open tabs of a user. Google says that this feature will be helpful when users are working on several tasks in Chrome at the same time. To use this feature, users are required to right-click on a tab and select “Organize Similar Tabs” or click the drop-down arrow to the left of tabs. Chrome can also suggest names and emoji for these new groups, so users will be able to easily find them.
Google is also adding the generative AI wallpaper feature to Chrome. Notably, the tech giant unveiled this feature with Android 14 and Pixel 8 devices last year. The new feature, based on the text-to-image diffusion model, allows users to generate unique themes for the Google Chrome browser. Google claims that users can quickly generate custom themes based on the subject, mood, visual style, and color they choose. To use this tool, users need to visit the “Customize Chrome” side panel, then click “Change theme” and then “Create with AI.”
Google is also planning to introduce another experimental AI-powered feature to help users write “with more confidence on the web.” According to Google, the “Help Me Write” feature will help users draft reviews for an establishment or make an inquiry on a website. “Type in a few words and our AI will kickstart the writing process for you,” added Google. It is to be noted that these features are disabled for enterprise and education accounts as they are early public experiments.
