Google has announced several new Android features at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas. The bunch of updates announced by the search engine giant include a Quick Share feature between all Android devices and the ability to cast TikTok from phones to Chromecast-built-in devices.

Google”s latest Quick Share system was developed in partnership with Samsung, and it is all set to replace Google”s Nearby Share, which was unveiled in 2020. “Collaborating with Samsung, we”re bringing the best of our sharing solutions together into a singular cross-Android solution under the Quick Share name,” wrote Google in its blog. Google said that it has “integrated the experiences” and developed the new way to share files.

With the new Quick Share icon, users will be able to see a list of all available devices nearby where they can share photos, videos, and files. Users can also configure who can discover their device and send them files. Google mentioned that Quick Share will be rolled out next month to all devices that currently have Nearby Share. Meanwhile, Google is also working with PC manufacturers, including LG, to expand this file sharing system to Windows PCs as a pre-installed app.

The tech giant also announced that they are extending Fast Pair support for Bluetooth accessories to Chromecast with Google TV next month. It will also be expanded to more Google TV devices later this year. Google also said that users will be able to cast TikTok content from their phones to Chromecast-built-in devices. Users will soon be able to cast live videos from TikTok to their smart TVs. Notably, Chromecast is also arriving on more devices, including the 2024 LG TV series, as a built-in feature.

Google is also working to improve interoperability across smart devices. As part of this, Android is preparing for the Matter standard, which is an open-source connectivity standard for smart home devices. Google said that LG TVs, select Google TVs, and other Android TV OS devices will act as hubs for Google Home in the future.
