Warner Bros. Games has officially released MultiVersus, a free-to-play platform fighting game now available on PlayStation®5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, featuring full cross-play and cross-progression support. Developed by Player First Games with support from Warner Bros. Games San Diego, MultiVersus boasts a continually expanding roster of characters from various Warner Bros. Discovery franchises.
The launch introduces Season 1: Puns & Villainy, adding new fighters such as The Joker from DC, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, and Banana Guard from Adventure Time. Agent Smith from The Matrix will join later in the season. Additionally, the game now features a new PvE mode called Rifts, which offers unique challenges beyond traditional PvP matches. New maps inspired by Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls have also been added.
According to the reports, David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, emphasized the goal of creating a fun and accessible experience for both casual and competitive players. Tony Huynh, Co-Founder and Game Director at Player First Games highlighted the care put into each character’s unique moves and combat mechanics, as well as the inclusion of the rollback netcode for smooth online play.
The diverse roster includes iconic characters such as Superman, Harley Quinn, Batman, Wonder Woman and Black Adam from DC; Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo; Bugs Bunny, Taz, and Marvin the Martian from Looney Tunes; Arya Stark from Game of Thrones; Tom & Jerry; Finn and Jake from Adventure Time; Steven Universe and Garnet; Iron Giant; LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy; Rick and Morty; Gizmo and Stripe from Gremlins; and the original character Reindog, with more to come in future updates.
MultiVersus offers various modes for online and local play, including the new PvE Rifts mode, 2 vs. 2 team-based matches, 1 vs. 1 duels, 4-player free-for-all, co-op vs. A.I., custom lobbies, practice mode (The Lab), tutorials, and local matches for up to four players.
Players can battle in dynamic environments such as the Batcave, Tree Fort, Scooby’s Haunted Mansion, and Sky Arena, among others. Notably, the game features voice acting from renowned talent including Mark Hamill as The Joker, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn, George Newbern as Superman, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Estelle as Garnet, among others.
