Kollam/Alappuzha: Containers from the Liberian-flagged container ship began washing ashore. By Monday morning, a total of nine containers had been found. Four were located near Sakthikulangara harbour, three near Chavara, and one each at Cheriazheekal and Thrikkunnapuzha in Alappuzha district.

On Saturday, the MSC Elsa 3, the 184-meter vessel, operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company, carrying 640 containers, capsized off Kochi harbour. Among the 640 containers, 73 were empty. Of the remaining, 13 carry hazardous cargo, including 12 that contained calcium carbide—a chemical that reacts violently with seawater to produce highly flammable acetylene gas.
